Shellex has been supporting Sanimax for several years on various projects.
A significant reduction in natural gas consumption
In this project, our Energy and Decarbonization team designed and oversaw the installation of a 35,000 lb/h biomass steam boiler, unique in North America. This boiler enables the combustion of approximately 19,000 tonnes of Specified Risk Material (SRM) that cannot be otherwise recovered, replacing 40% of the natural gas consumed by the Québec plant (Sanimax ACI) and reducing annual CO₂e emissions by over 11,000 tonnes.
This innovative initiative earned Shellex the 2014 Énergia Award from the Québec Association for Energy Management (AQME).
