Biomass Steam Boiler – Sanimax
Shellex has supported Sanimax for several years across a range of projects.
A significant reduction in natural gas consumption
For this project, Shellex’s Energy and Decarbonization team designed and supervised the installation of a 35,000 lb/h biomass steam boiler, a unique system in North America. The boiler enables the combustion of approximately 19,000 tonnes of Specified Risk Material (SRM) that cannot otherwise be recovered, displacing 40% of the natural gas used at the Québec plant (Sanimax ACI) and reducing annual CO₂e emissions by more than 11,000 tonnes.
This innovative initiative earned Shellex the 2014 Énergia Award from the Québec Association for Energy Management (AQME).
