Recovering Energy Sources
Evaporation is an energy-intensive process widely used across industrial sectors, including food processing, pulp and paper, and chemicals. While multi-effect systems and energy recovery can improve efficiency, overall energy consumption remains high.
Our Solution
Shellex supported the project at every stage, including feasibility studies, engineering, construction, commissioning, and grant management. The project replaced an existing evaporator with a mechanical vapor recompression system, recovering latent heat from the evaporated product to significantly reduce energy consumption and cooling water demand.
This project represents one of the first installations of its kind in Quebec. In addition to the technical complexity, integrating the system into a new five-story building with limited space within an existing facility was a significant achievement. The project was delivered under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) model, with Shellex acting as the main contractor.
Energy consumption was reduced by nearly 90% compared to pre-project levels.
