OUR STORY

The Beginnings of Shellex

Founded in 1997, the company was initially called Shellex Experts Conseil. The company quickly changed its name when Yves Handfield took over and renamed it Shellex Groupe Conseil. At the same time, another company was created: Comeau Experts-Conseils. Comeau and Shellex quickly worked together and decided to form a third entity: Gestion de Construction Comeau Handfield. This third entity led to the creation of Shellex Construction.

The head office for Shellex’s operations has always been in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. Shellex Groupe Conseil quickly established its reputation as an expert in this highly industrialized region of the province.

A Company That Rapidly Expands

The three sister entities quickly gained a reputation as engineering experts among industries, municipalities, cities, organizations, and promoters. With a significant client base, the firm rapidly extended its reach to the Greater Metropolitan Area with the opening of a second office in Sainte-Julie in 2014. In 2016, an office opened in Toronto to serve an established clientele and develop new markets. In 2017, a third branch was opened in Terrebonne to expand civil engineering services. This configuration with four offices allowed the company to cover the entire Greater Montreal territory and its surrounding areas.

Merger of Companies

In 2018, Comeau Experts-Conseils was renamed Shellex Infrastructures. At the same time, Gestion de Construction Comeau Handfield became Shellex Construction. Finally, in 2020, all operations were consolidated under the name Shellex Groupe Conseil.

In 2023, Shellex acquired the company GCI Experts en Énergie and added the Energy and Decarbonization specialty to its expertise. Consequently, a Sherbrooke office was added to the list of Shellex offices.

A New Executive Committee

In 2024, the company, previously under the leadership of its founder, Yves Handfield, was taken over by a dynamic executive committee composed of four directors: Benoit Primeau, Philippe Bourassa, Guillaume Pigeon, and Jean-Michel Poissant. Together, they represent the multidisciplinary nature of the company and the spirit of collaboration that prevails within.

A Business Model Based on Multidisciplinary Expertise

Shellex focuses on a proximity-based service built on partnership and communication with its clients. To achieve this, all members of the management team are actively involved in carrying out assignments. Shellex relies on a team of over 130 skilled and efficient engineers, technicians, and professionals, enabling it to achieve optimal results for each project, regardless of scale. The company’s size allows it to be highly effective for both small-scale projects and larger endeavors.
